The first night starts with a tour of the workshop, getting you familiar with the tools and materials we will be using, a run through of workshop OH & S and a detailed breakdown of the days ahead. We will then move onto the design process: how to design a kitchen knife that fits your purpose, your style of cutting and your hand.
The next day starts with me forging an example blade and then you are straight into it. Before morning tea I will have you using angle grinders, welder, hammer and anvil and have your blades forged out ready to grind. The rest of the day is taken up with grinding, hardening and tempering.
The final day is an easy start with hand polishing your blades, then moving on to fitting and shaping the handles, then finishing and sharpening. By the end of the course you will have 2 fully finished and sharpened kitchen knives made for you, by you to take home and show off.
Course includes: tuition, materials, instruction and use of all tools, workshop consumables, personal protective equipment, insurance, morning and afternoon tea and a photo usb.
What to bring: your own lunch, water bottle, fully enclosed shoes(preferably leather work boots), long pants.
